Hi. I’m Shruti.
I write poems and explore other creative expressions to see the world anew, and as it always has been.
My work is shaped by a long career in global development cooperation, the particulars of my Kenyan-Indian heritage, and daily observations of the natural world.
I’m interested in how language can distance us from reality, or draw us closer to it. If only for a moment, I hope my poems bring us into relationship with people and places that feel faraway, but to which we all intimately belong.
Alongside poetry, I experiment with other creative practices that hat extend this idea into material and visual forms. A long-standing project is making jewelry in collaboration with Kenyan artisans. It is a practice guided by the joy of making and the spirit of creative kinship.
